The cycling island

Kos is also known as the island of bicycles and not without reason! Bicycles are used as a means of transport by locals and visitors alike. Riding a bicycle is a very common activity, as there are more than 6.500 bicycles available for rent! Visitors are able to use more than 10 miles of cycling lanes, mainly in the centre of the island. Cycling is an excellent way to wander around in an eco-friendly way, sightsee or simply admire the natural environment and awe-inspiring landscapes of the island.

Kos: an open-air museum

Known as the homeland of Hippocrates, father of modern Medicine, Kos boasts a wide array of historical monuments and archaeological sites that are definitely worth your while! Visit the Asklepieion of Kos, the ancient healing centre where Hippocrates established his medical school. Or the renowned Plane Tree of Hippocrates and the Castle of the Knights, both found in Kos town. The Roman Odeon or Casa Romana are also among the popular sightseeing spots on the island, presenting typical examples of Roman architecture. Last but not least, the Basilicas of St. Stefanos, found on the seafront opposite the floating islet Kastri in Kefalos, form a landscape of extraordinary beauty that is not to be missed.
